Dance is an art that encompasses movement of the entire body, often rhythmic and performed to music. In many cultures, dancing is a form of expression, social interaction and exercise. It’s performed in spiritual settings and often used to tell a story. Dancing is all around enjoyable, entertaining and most of us love to dance!

Our staff loves utilizing dance as a healing art! Physical activity releases endorphins that serve to reduce stress, causing the body to feel calm yet enthusiastic and positive about the future. Endorphins also improve our quality of sleep, which is essential for our younger growing minds and bodies. Former dance students were significantly less likely than non-dance students to have ever tried cocaine—62.13% less likely than non-dance students.

We understand that not all young children and adolescents want to focus in this art form of exercise or expression, but still want to be able to join in on a class from time to time. Our dance hall provides this opportunity with a lively atmosphere featuring: high ceilings, beautiful wood flooring, natural lighting, full wall-length mirrors and stretching bars.

FOCUS Youth Center offers a minimum of three professional dance teachers to guide classes, as well as supervise open-dance sessions for youth to choreograph their own unique sets. Youth involved in dance are encouraged to join in on the creative process of all presentations they’re a part of.  We’ll host dance showcases throughout the year where they have the opportunity to perform, self-express and display their hard work and the bodies’ ability to move.

Recreational dance classes are organized five days a week leaving the weekend wide open for youth to utilize the space for their own unique dance expressions and practice.

Classes during the week for boys and girls include:

Hip-Hop, Jazz, Tap Dance and Magical Movement.

We also offer community Ballroom Dancing for youth, teens, adults and seniors including:

Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango, Quickstep, Cha cha, Swing, Jive, Samba, Mambo, Bolero, Merengue, Salsa, Country Line Dancing and more!
